CW watches on LF and HF were dropped by the Coast Guard on April 1, 1995 which ended the Maritime operations for a group of CW operators, replaced by RTTY and other TNC modes.

Below I added recordings of two actual “SOS” recordings.  If you’re a “cw fan”, go and copy them.  You will find it a challenge and see why those of us who set those watches stress accuracy, not speed.  If you copied a 4 when a 3 was sent in a position report, you just threw your search team off by 69 miles, and most likely souls died.
